Since the basic tab no longer exists as the updated of Aug 11, 2023, I found a workaround, the only blur feature is the halo blur under the trending tab. Follow the step below.
Steps
- Launch the CapCut app on your mobile device. If you haven’t already, download it from your app store and install it.
- On the homepage of CapCut, locate and tap the “+ New project” square. This will create a new project for your video editing endeavors.
- Choose the video you wish to edit from your gallery and upload it to the new project you’ve just created.
- Select the edit icon
- Choose split option and split the section that you want to edit
- Select effects Icon
- Under the trending option, select Halo Blur and select the check mark located on the right side of the screen to confirm.
- Edit and adjust the blur effect to apply it to your video
- Save and export the video to share it on other social media apps
Tip: You don’t need to do an overlay feature if you just want to blur a portion of the video, just split it. It would be the same if you’re blurring faces too. If you want to fully flur without a transition effect, turn the speed all of the way down in the option.

Compared to smartphone blur, the feature on PC is more advanced with different options to choose from. Here are some of the steps to follow when adding the feature to your videos.

- Open CapCut app on PC and select new project icon
- Go to import media and select the video you need to add blur effects
- Drag the Video into editing panel
- Select Transition Icon and Blur Icon
- Split the video into different section click (CTRL + B) where you want to add blur filter. Drag and drop Blur filter to various sections you want to be blurred.
- Ajust the blur effect for your video.
- When done, click export the video to compare the original and edited video before sharing
Note: If you want certain Sections Blurred. Drag the slider to mark how long the blur effect will last. Go to “Adjust” to make the transition smoother. shape and adjust its size.
